Nature-Based Learning (NBL) is an educational approach that connects students with the natural world as part of their everyday learning, and it can happen both inside and outside the classroom.
Outside, nature becomes the classroom, providing students with new and engaging ways to learn what’s already part of their curriculum while simultaneously exploring the natural world around them.
Our Peterson Young Naturalist Program is a powerful example that engages students with nature journaling while directly supporting established Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL).
Through Nature-Based Learning, nature can also be brought into the classroom through engaging students with hands-on studies and lessons, creating a classroom garden, bringing in guest speakers, and so much more.
No matter what type of educational environment a student is part of (public schools, private schools, home schools, even after-school care), Nature-Based Learning provides unprecedented mental, physical, social, and academic benefits that can’t be found anywhere else.
